I shot most of HNY through my depression phase: Deepika Padukone

I shot most of HNY through my depression phase: Deepika Padukone

New Delhi: Beautiful, successful, famous and rich. Deepika Padukone has it all but still she had a phase where she was depressed and had to rely on counseling and medication.
The actress revealed her journey through depression and anxiety in an interview to Hindustan Times.
Bollywood queen Deepika Padukone was suffering from the mental illness just a year ago. She reveals in the interview how she was suffering during the shoots of Happy New Year, “Every morning, it was a struggle to wake up, and shoot for Happy New Year’s (HNY; 2014) climax.”
Sharing her struggle to fight depression ‘Chennai Express’ actress told the leading daily that her mother realized the problem and got in touch with a psychologist friend. But after meeting the psychologist she was resistant on taking medication.
Deepika also talked about how she took a two month break after Happy New Year, “But before starting my next with Shoojit Sircar, I took a two-month break to recover mentally and physically. I spent time with my family in Bengaluru and was soon better. But, when I returned to Mumbai, I heard about a friend committing suicide due to anxiety and depression. It was a huge blow.”
The Bollywood diva also opened up what caused her to come out and talk about it, “My personal experience as well as my friend’s death urged me to take up this issue, which isn’t usually talked about. There is shame and stigma attached to talking about depression. In fact, one in every four people suffer from anxiety and depression.”
Distinguishing between being sad and depressed Deepika added, “Being sad and being depressed are two different things. Also, people going through depression don’t look so, while someone sad will look sad.”
Talking about how even successful people suffer from depression and anxiety the gorgeous actress shared her experience, “The most common reaction is, ‘How can you be depressed? You have everything going for you. You are the supposed number one heroine and have a plush home, car, movies… What else do you want?’ It’s not about what you have or don’t have. People talk about physical fitness, but mental health is equally important. I see people suffering, and their families feel a sense of shame about it, which doesn’t help. One needs support and understanding.
Deepika also revealed her plan on how she is working with her team to create awareness about this mental disorder.
Announcing her current mental state, Deepika says that she is much better now.
We salute Deepika for being so strong and wish her good luck in her future endeavors.

Kiran Bedi joining BJP "gross political opportunism", says Congress

Congress leader Ajay Maken, who will lead the party's campaign for Delhi Assembly polls, today termed as "gross political opportunism" the decision of Kiran Bedi to join the BJP.  She and Arvind Kejriwal "used" Anna Hazare for political gains and "backstabbed" him, he added.

He said Bedi had described India Against Corruption movement, which was led by Hazare and seen enthusiastic people's participation, "neither anti-Congress, nor pro-BJP" but she "betrayed" the trust of the people associated with it.

"Bedi, who had on record criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and claimed the IAC movement to be neither anti-Congress, nor pro-BJP, today betrayed the trust of the people associated with the IAC campaign," he said in a statement.

Style Statement of the Day: Aditi Rao Hydari in Falguni & Shane Peacock

What Aditi Rao Hydari wore to Screen Awards 2015?

Style Statement of the Day: Aditi Rao Hydari in Falguni & Shane Peacock
Actress Aditi Rao Hydari picked up an eye-catching dress for the Life OK Screen Awards 2015 in Mumbai on Wednesday evening.

The actress wore a Shane Peacock and Falguni Peacock number to the gala event.

As you can see, it’s a very out of the ordinary gown that permits skin show without making the person look vulgar. And the train seems to spread around rather than trail behind.

The slick hairdo with mid-parting goes well with the look.

Aditi Rao Hydari has rather been missing from the red carpet at the award shows this year. Now, she finally makes her presence felt. And how!

'Tharoor told me to persuade Sunanda to be normal'

Sanjay Dewan, a family friend of Shashi Tharoor and his wife Sunanda Pushkar and a key witness in her mysterious death case, on Wednesday said they were a "happy couple" and he was not aware whether she was suffering from any ailment.

"Since 2006, I have known Shashi Tharoor, after he got married to Sunanda. For what I have known of them, they were a happy couple. Yes, like every couple has a little bit of tiffs, they would also be having but to my knowledge, there was nothing which could be termed as a fight," Dewan told a television channel on Wednesday.

Asked whether Sunanda was suffering from Lupus or any other ailment Dewan said "not to my knowledge. I was a friend of theirs and the last time I met them was a month and a half before this incident. So I was not meeting them on a daily basis."

He also said that he has been called thrice so far by the police for questioning, "probably the most number of times”.

Asked why police call him again and again, he said "I happened to be there at the time which happens to be important to them.”

Explaining the happenings of January 17 when Sunanda was found dead in a five star hotel suite in south Delhi, Dewan said "I reached the hotel at around 5 pm and Tharoor came around 7:30 pm. Tharoor checked on Sunanda around 7:45 pm and said that something has happened to her following which the hotel staff arrived within minutes."

Asked who all were there when it happened, he said "there were four people, Mr Sharma (Tharoor's personal assistant Rakesh Kumar Sharma), Bajrangi, Narayan Singh (both Tharoor's domestic helps) and myself."

According to Dewan's statement before the SDM who had carried out inquest proceedings in the case, he had twice called a doctor from Ganga Ram Hospital to check on Sunanda before she was found dead at 6:55 pm and then 7:20 pm on January 17. Also, it was he who had called the hotel doctor who declared her dead.

Dewan's presence at the crime scene and his key role in calling doctors for Sunanda is the reason why the Special Investigation Team formed in the case has been questioning him several times.

He also said that he had sent a message to Tharoor, a day earlier which he did not respond to (initially) and responded late in the night. “And the next day in the morning when I was on my way to Mumbai, I sent him a message asking how Sunandaji was feeling and I was told that she was not well and as a friendly gesture I offered if I could do anything and Dr Tharoor accepted and said if I could come and persuade Sunanda to be normal -- normal in the sense -- to eat something…”

"And this was all through SMS and then I cancelled my trip to Mumbai and I was in touch over the SMS. He had given to me the number of his servant Narayan and I was in touch with Narayan also and each time I was told that she was sleeping. Around 4:30 pm, Narayan told me that Sunandaji was about to get up and I could come if I wanted to and I decided to go to the hotel," he said.

Delhi Police had on January one registered a case of murder in connection with Sunanda's death under Section 302 of IPC on the basis of an AIIMS medical report that concluded that her death was unnatural and due to poisoning but did not reveal the nature and the quantity of the poison.

VIJAYS JOY TRIUMPHS IN DARLEY ARABIAN MILLION

L.V.R.Deshmukh schooled Vijays Joy (Stern opinion-Jia Yoh Jia Yoh) was classy while clinching the prestigious Darley Arabian Million – Gr.3, at Hyderabad on Monday. It was a hat-trick performance by Vijays Joy, having won all its three starts and also the second successive ‘Million’ triumph. The grey colt faced three opponents with Bangalore challenger Areca Wonder turning out to be the main one. Vijays Joy was speedy at start and set out to lead the pack followed by Chal Raja Chal, Areca Wonder and The Healer. Into the last 400 metres Areca Wonder moved quickly to challenge the leader and at one stage the race looked to be heading for a close finish but Vijays Joy kicked on well under P.S.Chouhan to stay clear by a length and three quarters. Chal Raja Chal finished a faraway third.
Jockey P.S.Chouhan was back to his usual self at Hyderabad, booting home three winners. He rode Deshmukh’s Movie Moghual to victory in the opener and then M.V.Narayana Rao’s Major Dundee in the next. Movie Moghual (Amadeus Wolf-Mina Girl) was sent off as an unbeatable one among the four runners at 10-4 ‘on’ for the Mysore Race Club Cup. The 4 year old was taken to the front at start and stayed that way till the winning post. On entering the home stretch Power Planet and Ocean Side tried to catch up from the outside but failed to match strides with the winner. Brahmani beat the other two to finish second.
Major Dundee (Noverre-Debinnair) who had not finished on board in its two starts rallied well to win the Tungabhadra Cup when piloted by P.S.Chouhan. Save The Nation led the field from the start followed closely by Ondha Ondha Ondha. The duo started to fight out inside the last 200 metres and Major Dundee was asked for an effort from the wide outside. The gelding responded readily and sped past both the front runners and spare three parts of a length at the wire. Ondha Ondha Ondha beat Save The Nation for the third place.
L.D’Silva’s ward Prince Of Arabia (Epicentre-Ice Castle) sprang a surprice in the higher division of the Amarnath Gupta Memorial Cup. Prince Of Arabia took a good start from the outermost draw and headed quickly to the inner fence to lead. The gelding preferred to settle in second when Ashok Chakra stepped up pace to take the lead. Mid-way up the straight jockey Kuldeep Singh started to urge Prince Of Arabia from the outside and the 6 year old did well to surge past and pull it off by a length. Exclusive Beauty was full of running while finishing a close third.
Gaarswood (Home Affairs-Admiration) from R.H.Sequeira’s stables won the lower division. Gaarswood, a winner of its last start was at nourishing odds despite its good showing in the previous four starts and the money revolved around Princess Cruise. Pacific Star and Fair And Square were fighting out in front on the straight with Audacious getting stronger from the outside. As they came into the final furlong the favourite Princess was looking to make her way through horses and then came Gaarswood tearing down from the rear to settle the issue. Audacious, Princess Cruise and Fair And Square filled the judge’s frame in that order.
Laxman Singh trained Vijay’s Splendour (Ikhtyar-Confluence) pulled off an upset in the Amarnath Gupta Memorial Cup.Catherine and Equalizer raced almost together in front and Vijays Splendour progressed swiftly to be in striking position even before straightening up. Passing the 400 metres board Vijay’s Splendour raced ahead to grab the lead and won easily with Olive having to settle for the second place after a vain bid. Sweety Girl and Kohinoor Punch filled the judge’s frame.
Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy’s Love For The Game (Noverre-Patricia) won the Might Is Right Plate, a seven furlongs race for maiden 3 year old horses. K.Satheesh’s trainee raced prominently behind Sefarina till entering the straight and then started to challenge from the outside. Love For The Game travelled the better to go ahead and managed to hold on from a fast finishing Silvassa.
Anupam Sharma trained Amazing Weapon (Hurrocane State-Kodava Fire) justified the favouritism in the Singh Plate. Amazing Weapon took charge passing the 800 metres board and maintained a good lead all through the final straight. Globetrotter came in fast towards the closing stages but could only beat Nano Belle for the second place.
Trainer K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s ward Aston Doulton (Gaswar-Svetlana) scored its second successive win in the Roman Beauty Plate, the concluding race of the day. The 4 year old gelding won the 1200 metres sprint from start to finish, stretching out effortlessly on the final stretch under jockey Suraj Narredu. Scholar Gypsy and True Pearl finished second and third respectively, with a short-head separating them.

At the launch of a magazine's cover here Monday, Huma opened up about her role in the movie, which also stars Varun Dhawan.
"In 'Badlapur', my character's name is Jhumli. It's a special film for me because I got a chance to work with my favourite director, Sriram Raghavan. I'm a huge fan of him. And from the time I saw his films, 'Ek Hasina Thi' , 'Johnny Gaddaar', I really wanted to work with him," she said.

Rape accused singer performs at Mumbai Police event

Mumbai: The performance of playback singer Ankit Tiwari, who was arrested on rape charges, at an annual Mumbai Police event has exposed the double face of the ruling BJP, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee said.

Bollywood singer Ankit Tiwari during the launch of Leading Jewellers of the world presents Ticket to Bollywood by Gitanjali Gems Pvt Ltd in Mumbai

"Nothing more can be expected from the BJP, which spoke of sensitivity towards crime against women and strong action against rape accused, during elections.

"Even at the Centre, the BJP has refused to take action against a rape accused minister (apparently referring to chemicals and fertilisers minister Nihalchand Meghwal)," MPCC spokesman Sachin Sawant said. Such instances have exposed the real face of the BJP, he said.

On Saturday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and thousands of policemen, including Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, attended 'Umang 2015' show where Bollywood stars performed for the men and women in uniform. Tiwari, along with his co-performer, sung a number from soon-to-be released horror flick 'Alone' for the audience at the Andheri Sports Complex.
Fadnavis, however, had left the venue by the time

Fadnavis, however, had left the venue by the time Ankit arrived on the stage. The 25-year-old singer was arrested in May last year for allegedly raping his girlfriend on several occasions, after promising to marry her.

Ankit's brother Ankur had also been arrested for allegedly threatening the victim with dire consequences if she made the sexual assault public.

Tiwari was booked under sections 376 (rape) and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, while his brother was charged with criminal intimidation. Both are currently out on bail.

MasterChef India 4: Sanjeev Kapoor, Vikas Khanna promise innovative veggie delights

MasterChef India 4: Sanjeev Kapoor, Vikas Khanna promise innovative veggie delights

Mumbai: Popular cooking-based reality show "MasterChef India" is heading back to television with its fourth season to serve a visual delight of vegetarian dishes cooked under the guidance of its judges and chefs Sanjeev Kapoor, Vikas Khanna and new entrant to the panel chef Ranveer Brar.
In its new season, the Indian adaptation of the internationally popular format will witness chefs and food enthusiasts from various Indian states using their creativity and cooking skills for fancy gourmet dishes, exotic desserts and rich Indian food served in style.
With its unique vegetarian format, the show will help the viewers to broaden their mindset over various vegetarian dishes and will help them to think about new recipes apart from the regulars 'Dal Makhani' and 'Shahi Paneer'.
"In every season we come out with a unique format. This time the contestants will cook only vegetarian food. Apart from being popular, the vegetarian concept will make the competition level tougher for all the contestants," the popular chef Kapoor said here.
During the launch here Friday evening, one got a glimpse of the traditional Indian dishes made by some of the contestants under the guidance of the three judges. A special treat was organised for mediapersons, who were asked to taste the dishes and give their feedback.
Talking about his judging parameters, chef Brar said: "More than looking at the ambience of the food, I'll be focusing on its taste. If a dish is not tasty, I don't think people will try it. Ambience adds credibility to food. But its taste remains crucial for me."
With succesful previous seasons, the show aims at continuing to promote amateur talents from India and provide them a platform from where they can start a career in the field.
Chef Khanna said: "Our previous seasons winners are building on a great career in various food-related fields. Some of them have opened their own restaurants, some are writing books on Indian food. Also they are working as chefs in five star hotels.
"Just like any other reality show winners, 'MasterChef' contestants have worked immensely hard to do what they wished to. No longer do people call cooking a women's activity. Men are also getting attracted to it."
The show will be aired from Jan 26 on Star Plus.

Siddharth Shukla talks about leaving 'Balika Vadhu' for Bollywood films

Siddharth Shukla talks about leaving 'Balika Vadhu' for Bollywood films

Mumbai: Actor Siddharth Shukla, who made a positive movie debut with "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania", is bidding goodbye to his ongoing serial "Balika Vadhu". But he says he isn't quiiting television altogether to pursue a film career.
Talking about his exit from the long-running show, he said: "I'm not (really) quitting the serial. My character Shiv has had his innings in the script. I therefore have no choice but to follow him out of the serial.
"But it's certainly not as if I am abandoning the show to do films. I've always shown the highest regard for the television medium. Even when I was doing Karan Johar's film, I continued to shoot for 'Balika Vadhu' .So there is no question of my abandoning the serial."
Siddharth has also slammed rumours that the channel Colors sacked him after the run-in that he had with the law for drunken driving on New Year's.
"Like I said, my character Shiv is run out of time on 'Balika Vadhu', not me. As for the incident that you're referring to, I've nothing to say. It's over and done with. Whatever trouble there was has been sorted out," he said.
Siddharth is now looking at a break before he moves to the new level in his career.
"I've given two years of my life to 'Balika Vadhu'. I've been shooting for the serial every day from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. It's about time I had some 'me-time'.
"I want to take a break, relax and enjoy the things that I have not been able to during the past few years," he said.
Strangely, in spite of being well-received in "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania", Siddharth hasn't signed any films.
"I'm looking at film projects. And there'll be an announcement soon. Right now I'm still shooting for 'Balika Vadhu'. I don't know how I'll feel once it's over. I suppose there will be a sense of emptiness," he said.

Mumbai: TV actress Sonia Balani, who plays a romantic girl in the TV opera "Tu Mera Hero", says she is a die-hard fan of 1995 Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol-starrer romantic drama film "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge", and that she takes inspiration from the Bollywood entertainer for her role.
Sonia, who came into the spotlight with her role as Peehu in "Bade Achhe Lagte Hain", says the film has inspired her a lot and has helped her in essaying a romantic and full-of-dreams girl in the show.
"Panchhi is very romantic. To do a character like that, I did a lot of preparations by watching various romantic films, especially 'DDLJ'. I don't think there is any better romantic film than this. I took a lot of inspiration from it to learn how to romance," she said.
"I'm not at all romantic off-screen. So, to do a role opposite to my real image was difficult," she added.
Asked whether her character in "Tu Mera Hero" is similar to that of Kajol's Simran in "DDLJ", Sonia said: "Panchhi is a fresh character. I have not copied it from anywhere. I have just taken inspiration from films. Being a youngster, I try to play a character in a unique way and try not to copy it from anywhere."
The show, which airs on Star Plus, also stars Priyanshu Jora and Akhilendra Mishra in pivotal roles.

Delhi polls: EC embarrassed over bogus voter cards with images of Bollywood stars

Delhi polls: EC embarrassed over bogus voter cards with images of Bollywood stars

New Delhi: It was embarrassing for EC officials to find a dozen of Voter cards bearing photographs of film stars. The officials found this while going through the final electoral roll for Delhi elections. The election commission has already skimmed off  60,000 dubious voters from the list.

“Out of these 12 such bogus voter identity cards 10 are of males bearing the photograph of film star Akshay Kumar downloaded from internet while rest two are of females with a photo of actress Riya Sen. The applications for these voters were sent online from the same email,” Ankur Garg, deputy electoral officer of South West district, told a newspaper.
Garg also confirmed that Chief electoral officer has ordered verification of entire electoral roll and more such cases are likely to emerge.

Election commission is also issuing notices to such voters with doubtful credentials but it has not been confirmed whether it was a mistake on the part of voter or the government officials.

The CEO has also decided to take actions against those who have got a new voter id issued without canceling the old one.

Besides, the election officials have also come across 15 voters from Bijwasan assembly who already have their names enrolled in Haryana’s voter list.

“We are putting all these voters in ASD (Absent, Shifted and Dead) list, we are also issuing notices to them to opt for one voter list either in Delhi or Haryana,” added the officer.

As per the section 31 of Representation of People Act 1950, such offences can invite imprisonment of one year.
However, since there is lack of action in these matters, nobody cares.

Around 1.30 crores voters have been enlisted in the voter list for the upcoming Delhi Elections.  Meanwhile, Aam Admi Party has alleged that there are 4 lakh bogus voters included in  the final list and have approached Election commission and Delhi High Court to remove these names.
