Salman, Aamir, Arjun: TOP Earning Actors of 2014,

Salman, Aamir, Arjun: TOP Earning Actors of 2014

Arjun Kapoor beats Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar at the box office!
Like every year, 2014 has also been good for Bollywood's reigning superstars.
The younger bunch -- Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan -- have added to the mix.
Here's a look at how much money the top actors made this year at the box office:

Salman Khan
Salman Khan in Kick
Image: Salman Khan in Kick
Box office collection: Kick: Rs 232 crore, Jai Ho: Rs116 crore. Total: Rs 348 crore
Missing in action right through 2013, Salman Khan was expected to score big with the first big release of 2014, Jai Ho. Though the film was panned by critics, it managed to earn decently at the box office.
Salman's Kick fared much better, amassing more than Rs 200 crore.
His overall collections were an impressive Rs 350 crore.

Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan in PK

Box office collection: PK: Rs 250+crore
After his last mega blockbuster Dhoom 3, Aamir made magic yet again with PK.
The film is doing great guns with records being created day after day. It may well cross the Rs 250 crore mark.

Arjun Kapoor
Arjun Kapoor in Finding Fanny

Box office collection: 2 States: 102 crore, Gunday: 79 crore, Finding Fanny: 32 crore. Total: 213 crore
The real surprise among the top 10 turned out to be Arjun Kapoor.
He started the year with Gunday that earned one of the best openings for a film starring actors from the young brigade.
Arjun stood the real test of time by scoring a century with 2 States.
Later, even in an experimental film Finding Fanny, he left his mark.

Shah Rukh Khan
Shah Rukh Khan in Happy New Year

Box office collection: Happy New Year: Rs 202 crore
Shah Rukh Khan continued his unbeaten record by delivering yet another hit with Happy New Year. Though it didn't quite cover the distance his last release Chennai Express did, it was still a big enough success.

Ajay Devgn
Ajay Devgn in Singham Returns
Image: Ajay Devgn in Singham Returns
Box office collection: Singham Returns: Rs 141 crore, Action Jackson: Rs 59 crore. Total: Rs 200 crore
Ajay Devgn continued his consistent run in 2014.
His Singham Returns took a record opening at the box office and at one point, it seemed the film would be a bumper success all over. It took a fall in the days to come, but it still earned a superhit status.
Action Jackson found some audience at the single screen theatres, resulting in Ajay closing 2014 with a Rs 200 crore total.

Akshay Kumar
Akshay Kumar in Entertainment
Image: Akshay Kumar in Entertainment
Box office collection: Holiday: Rs 112 crore, Entertainment: Rs 72 crore. Total: Rs 184 crore
Akshay Kumar was consistent as well.
He delivered a hit with Holiday, which also showcased him in a different light.
Entertainment turned out to be a decent success as well (it went on to create a record for satellite viewing).

Hrithik Roshan
Hrithik Roshan in Bang Bang
Image: Hrithik Roshan in Bang Bang
Box office collection: Bang Bang: Rs 181 crore
When the first promo of Bang Bang arrived and made a smash impression all over, it seemed that a 200 crore film was on the anvil. Though it fell just short of reaching that landmark, the film established Hrithik Roshan's superstar status all over again.
It was yet another massive success for the actor after Krrish 3.

Riteish Deshmukh
Riteish Deshmukh in Ek Villain
Image: Riteish Deshmukh in Ek Villain
Box office collection: Ek Villain: Rs 106 crore, Humshakals: Rs 65 crore. Total: Rs 171 crore
A new entrant on this list, Riteish Deshmukh has scored consistently for the last four years.
While he entered the 100 crore club with Grand Masti last year, this year he made a century with Ek Villain. In fact even though Humshakals went down after a good start, he was the best thing about it. No wonder, he has some interesting films lined up in 2015 too.

Sidharth Malhotra
Siddharth Malhotra in Hasee Toh Phasee
Image: Sidharth Malhotra in Hasee Toh Phasee
Box office collection: Ek Villain: Rs 106 crore, Hasee Toh Phasee: Rs 39 crore
For Sidharth Malhotra, 2014 was an important year.
He experimented with his choice of roles, and changed his chocolate boy image by playing two very diverse characters this year.
First, he went sober in Hasee Toh Phasee, which was made at a moderate budget and turned into a success.
Later, he tried his hand with the action thriller, Ek Villain.

Varun Dhawan
Varun Dhawan in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya
Image: Varun Dhawan in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya
Box office collection: Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya: Rs 78 crore, Main Tera Hero: Rs 55 crore. Total: Rs 133 crore
After Student of the Year, Varun Dhawan was a part of two back-to-back feel good films.
He started the year with dad David Dhawan's Main Tera Hero and the formulaic film turned out to be a success.
Later, he scored bigger with Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya, a modern day adaptation of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, which was lapped up by everyone.

Ranveer Singh
Ranveer Singh in Kill Dil
Image: Ranveer Singh in Kill Dil
Box office collection: Gunday: Rs 79 crore, Kill Dil: Rs 35 crore. Total: Rs 114 crore.
Ranveer Singh proved once again that he had it in him to pull in the audiences by starting the year well with Gunday. The film brought him some good reviews too.
His other release Kill Dil, however, did not fare as well.
(Cameos/special appearances haven't been taken under consideration. All collections as per producers/distributor sources.)

PK protests: What stops the PM Modi or Rajnath Singh from intervening?,The many things that Amitabh Bachchan desires to do

The many things that Amitabh Bachchan desires to do

The many things that Amitabh Bachchan desires to do

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan desires to do many things, including learning a musical instrument and writing a script.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says the editing of a film has changed a lot over the years and back in the old days, entering or getting even close to an editing room involved "a fine" or feeding "the staff" or leaving before getting "beaten up".

"Actually now being in the company of edit is pretty normal. In those days we were never allowed even 100 meters from the edit room. If per chance you were to find yourself in the edit, you either paid a fine, fed the staff, and left in a hurry before you got beaten up," the 72-year-old posted on his blog srbachchan.tumblr.com.

Amitabh Bachchan also expressed how "exciting" it would be for him to go back to school and learn new things.

"I do believe that the editor and the background score artist are the happiest on film in making. How exciting it would be for me to get back to school and learn the craft that I never could get occasion to. Or to just enrol myself for a couple of months to study and be judged for work done in the process of educating myself," he added.

The 72-year-old also desires to learn music, instruments and many more things.

"But then there is desire to do so many things - music, instrument, study, writing script, acting and a host of other facilities to be done… Some day I hope to be able to do that...some day yes some day," he said.

PK protests: What stops the PM Modi or Rajnath Singh from intervening?

New Delhi: Why is the government silent on the acts of vandalism of the Right wing radical groups? These groups have taken their protest against the Aamir Khan-starer PK too far. Over the last three days they have been tearing posters of the movie and vandalising theatres screening it. While this is the latest in a trend visible over the last few months, the worrisome part is they are getting bolder and bolder by the day. They have been acting with impunity, secure in the knowledge that the government won’t act against them. How long will this be allowed to go on?
The silence of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh, obviously, is not helping the matter. It is, in fact, encouraging them to take hooliganism a notch higher.
Activists from Shiv Sena, Sher-e-Punjab, burn a poster against the film 'PK' outside a cinema in Amritsar. AFP
Activists from Shiv Sena, Sher-e-Punjab, burn a poster against the film 'PK' outside a cinema in Amritsar. AFP
"Neither the government nor the prime minister will take any action against such groups. Senior BJP leader LK Advani’s endorsement of the movie notwithstanding, if these RSS-backed radical elements want a ban on the film and create ruckus, one can’t expect the prime minister to act against them. It is a well-planned strategy of the NDA government to encourage such acts of communalism. It wants the public attention diverted from real issues so that it can get through with ordinances on various bills," said Badal Saroj, central committee member, Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Political parties across the spectrum have voiced strong protest and concern on government’s inaction against the radical groups that are attempting to challenge the freedom of creative expression.
"It’s similar to what happened in Germany during Adolf Hitler's time. One can't expect Modi to take any action against such elements, because he’s himself the initiator. It's an extension of the Gujarat model; what he did as Gujarat chief minister, he’s doing now as the PM. Even, this government is against encouraging scientific temper, forget the creative faculty,” remarked KC Tyagi, Rajya Sabha member and spokesperson of Janata Dal (U).
Added Adarsh Shastri, Aam Aadmi Party leader, "The PM is expected to rise above party politics and act as a statesman to keep the secular fabric of the nation intact. I don't know what's the compulsion of the government or the PM to not act against this vandalism. Either the PM doesn’t want to or has been tied down by his party."
The sudden turn of events has appeared to be a matter of great concern for the film and theatre fraternity.
Prominent theatre personality and cultural activist, MK Raina, observed: “Whether the government is that of the Congress or the BJP, nothing changes. The political hoodlums continue with their destructive activities. It happened many a time in the past. There’s no change in attitude even with the present government.”
“Despite, the film being cleared by the Censor Board, I don’t know why the government is silent on the protest by certain groups. It means Censor Board has lost its authority. I’m worried over the turn of events. It seems attempts are afoot to bring an end to institutional autonomy,” added Raina, a former Censor Board member, who also worked with Aamir Khan in Taare Zameen Par.
Remarked theatre artist and director Mahmood Farooqui, who specializes in Urdu oral storytelling Dastangoi, “I don’t know what’s the compulsion of the PM, but he should have taken action. Even, in Parliament, he was quite guarded in his statement on the comment of Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti’s comment ‘Ramzadon and Haramzadon’. However, the protestors won’t matter much as the film has already garnered Rs 400 crore.”
The fringe elements have been busy in activities like burning effigy of actor Aamir Khan and taking out protest marches across the country - in Bhopal, Jammu, Ahmedabad, Meerut, Lucknow, Dehradun, Ranchi, etc alleging that the “film has made fun of Hindu religious sentiments”.
“While, the government talks of development, it ought to be careful about these kinds of elements, who can be a damaging factor. These overtly hyper-enthusiastic elements undertake such acts of muscle-flexing to appease their political masters, so that in lieu they can earn benefits like posts in the party, or a corporator’s ticket etc. I don’t know about government’s compulsion, but unless the PM reins in such elements, it could downsize BJP like the Congress at present,” pointed out Deepu Das, director of Bhopal-based theatre group Nandinik.

Tendulkar wants to to light up villages in his next innings

New Delhi: Looking for "satisfaction" after retirement, Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar says he plans to light up lives in villages where electricity remains a distant dream even to this day.
The former batsman, who is a Rajya Sabha MP as well, said he is aiming to ensure that villages get access to electricity.
"My second innings is more about satisfaction. Many villages don't have electricity and life there comes to a standstill after sunset. This is one thing I want to change," Tendulkar told 'Star Sports'.
"It is going to require a lot of support and I hope I get it from everyone," said the celebrated player, who recently adopted the Puttamraju Kandrika village in Andhra Pradesh as part of a government initiative.
On to cricket and Tendulkar offered an insight into how tough it is playing in Australia, where the national team is currently playing a Test series.
"It (Australia) will make your life difficult. The players, media, groundsmen, everyone will make your life difficult but if you do well they are the first to stand up and applaud you. That's what I like about them," Tendulkar said.
Tendulkar played six World Cups and was part of the champion team which lifted the trophy in 2011. Speaking of the upcoming edition in Australia and New Zealand, Tendulkar said he would enjoy from the sidelines this time.
"I don't like to coach when I am not playing but I will be watching. I strongly believe that we have a very good chance. We just have to focus on process, the result will take care of itself," he said.

She's street-smart!

Yash Chopra was an elder brother to me: Amitabh Bachchan

Yash Chopra was an elder brother to me: Amitabh Bachchan Mumbai: Recently post being honored with the second Yash Chopra Memorial Award by the TSR Foundation, the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan disclosed that he shared family bonds with the late director Yash Chopra.

Right from his first collaboration with Yashji in ‘Deewar’, he was more like an elder brother to Big B.

“With Yashji I had a family relationship and I believe that I still have that. I always felt that he is not only a great filmmaker but also an elder brother to me.”

Disclosing the life history of the late Director, Amitji said that he has seen how Yashji has started off his career as an independent director and producer.

He said that he still remember that one small room from where Yash’s career took the flight.

“Yashji used to work with his elder brother B R Chopra. He started off with a small room at Rajkamal studio and now Yash Raj studio is one of the well known production houses and this job was not an easy thing to do," he said.

Revealing facts about Yash’s film, Amitabh added, “If you watch a Yash Chopra film you will realize that every film of him is very relatable with the real life. His films were full of life's aesthetic values.”

I enjoy taking decisions as a producer: Priyanka Chopra

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra is all set for her maiden production venture 'Madamji', which is currently in pre-production stage.

Priyanka Chopra

The 32-year-old actress, who will be shooting back-to-back for 'Bajirao Mastani' and 'Dil Dhadakne Do', says she is enjoying the process of taking decisions as a producer.

"'Madamji' is a fictional story. It's a story of an item girl, who is thrown in the world of politics. 'Madamji' is about woman empowerment. I am enjoying the fact that I am going to office and taking decisions as a producer," Priyanka said in an interview.

"I meet so many assistant directors on my sets and they have some great scripts but don't get the opportunity. I don't have the capability of making a big budget film but I will make small films with some great talents. The name  of my production house is Purple Pebble Pictures," she added.

The actress said she has some free time during the New Year that she will spend playing dress up for her brother's marriage.

"People are in a festival mood in the last few days before a New Year. My brother is getting married. We are planning a lot for the sangeet and wedding. We are sending invitations and all the cousins are gathering. It is fun time."

Priyanka had a successful year with the release of 'Mary Kom' and the actress wants to continue taking bold decisions when it comes to her career.

"In my career I have never opted for a safe path. Look at 'Mary Kom', do I look like her? During 'Barfi!', I was told that I will not be accepted as an autistic girl while people told me I should do something like 'Fashion' at the end of the career.

"Now, I am turning producer with 'Madamji' and people are saying women can't run a production house. But I want to take that chance," she said.

Priyanka has also signed a deal with America's ABC network to star in one of their projects.

"As an actress I feel flattered because you also come to know where you are placed internationally. I am going to LA to discuss my projects with them and let's see what they will offer me," she said.

Kissing Baba arrested

Hyderabad: A man was today arrested for allegedly presenting another man, seemingly mentally unstable, as a spiritual leader and miracle-healer for earning easy money in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, police said. The latter was also taken into custody for allegedly misbehaving with some women who visited him. Subba Reddy, the accused, got a 30-year-old man dressed up as 'a baba' in saffron robes and installed him near a religious place in Yerraguntla. He then told the people that the baba can cure people of serious ailments and exorcise evil spirits, said police sub-inspector Sanjiv Reddy. "Subba Reddy collected money from the poor people who visited this baba. However, around four-five days ago this baba started hugging and kissing women," the police officer said citing complaint filed by a Bajrang Dal worker. Both were produced before a magistrate, who sent Reddy in judicial custody while asking the police to refer the other man to a psychiatrist for examination. The officer said that police were awaiting the psychiatrist's report. A case of cheating, molestation and 'inducing person to believe that he will be rendered an object of the divine displeasure' (section 508) has been filed under the Indian Penal Code. "This so-called baba seems to be a semi-lunatic person," Kadapa DSP Ashok Kumar told

Box office blockbusters of 2014: 'PK', 'Kick', 'Happy New Year', 'Bang Bang' and 'Singham Returns'

2013 had its share of 100 crore and 200 crore films but when it came to 2014, it outdid the previous year's records with full aplomb and flourish. With more screen counts, more variety and a plethora of big budgeted films hitting the screens this year, 2014 always looked promising and now that the year is set for a closure, it would not be wrong to say that it did live upto its promises.
While there were other films which were surprisingly successful, there was the Bolly heavyweight brigade which brought in the numbers with ease. From Aamir Khan to Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan to Ajay Devgn and Hrithik Roshan, all big guns of Bollywood fired setting box office blazing with records.

7 Bollywood jodis that made us go 'Aww' in 2014!

7 Bollywood jodis that made us go 'Aww' in 2014!

Each year brings with it some really memorable films and with such memorable films, the leading pair too paves their way to everyone's hearts. Such was the case with some of the new and some repeated pairings in Bollywood this year.
With the year drawing to a closure, it is time we bring you the 7 Bollywood jodis that touched our hearts and made us simply go 'Aww' with their mushy on-screen romance!
Alia Bhatt- Arjun Kapoor:

Two Gen-Y actors - both stars in their own ways. They just needed a film to bring them together and voila! There was 2 States. Adapted from Chetan Bhagat's novel of the same name, Alia-Arjun's sparkling chemistry elevated the film to a different level altogether. If their naughty tu-tu-main-main made us laugh, their battle for love tugged our hearts. Their on screen camaraderie was crackling enough to spark relationship and link up rumours off screen as well.
Shraddha Kapoor-Sidharth Malhotra:

Another duo from the newest breed of actors, Shraddha and Sidharth brought in an exciting mismatch of sorts when they were paired opposite each other in Ek Villain. While he turned eyeballs with his brawny, brooding appearance, Shraddha as the lovely, adorable girl-next-door won a million hearts. A tale of love and revenge, Shraddha's infectious energy complimented Sidharth's ruffian attitude like chalk and cheese!
Alia Bhatt-Varun Dhawan:

They had earlier been paired together in their debut film- Karan Johar's Student Of The Year. But there, he lost her to Sidharth, But in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Varun was all set to win his bride and take her home. A tribute to Shah Rukh Khan- Kajol's iconic romantic saga Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, it was the urban feel coupled with Alia-Varun's rocking screen presence which catapulted this mushy romance to success! Who can forget the immensely romantic Samjhawan number from the film?
Salman Khan-Jacqueline Fernandes:

They fit the bill like fire and ice. He's hot-headed and temperamental. She's calm and amiable. When the two fall in love, magic happens. That's what Sajid Nadiadwala brilliantly made use of in his film Kick. Another foreign export, Jackie looked resplendent with Salman in every frame and their on-screen chemistry seemed to have upped the expectations even further from Kick. While most Salman Khan films are just about him, Kick was more about him and his ladylove!
Hrithik Roshan-Katrina Kaif:

They had set tongues wagging with their smoking hot kiss in Zoya Akhtar's much loved film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. But when Hrithik and Katrina decided to come together again, they made sure they came back with a bang! Or should we say- Bang Bang! Undeniably the hottest couple in B-town, given that the two look smouldering together, Katrina and Hrithik had more than just a smooch moment in the Sidharth Anand film. While the film seemed more about stunts and action from the trailer, it was Katrina and Hrithik's chemistry which outshone everything else.
Shahid Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor:

Haider was meant to be all about the central character played by Shahid Kapoor. But would Haider have been the same without Arshia? No, we say! Despite having a smaller role compared to her other films, Shraddha brought in a refreshing energy on the platter in an otherwise dark, gloomy Vishal Bhardwaj film. If the steamy scenes between the two upped the oomph quotient, the gravedigger scene where Shahid breaks down on seeing Shraddha's dead body gives you goose bumps. Enough said.
Deepika Padukone-Shah Rukh Khan:

They have been paired twice before. They have created magic before. They have gifted two blockbusters before. But when they came together for another film, it had to be grander. Undoubtedly, one of the best pairings, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone share a certain vibe which sets the ball rolling for them and their fans. After a hugely successful Chennai Express, SRK and Deepika's sweet coy romance in Happy New Year did bring in a lot of cheers, even though the film was criticised for its illogical narrative. No wonder, Manwaa Laage turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the season.

Anil Kapoor birthday special: Rare and unseen pics,Ugly: 5 things to watch out for

Ugly: 5 things to watch out for (see pics)

Ugly: 5 things to watch out for (see pics)

New Delhi: Anurag Kashyap directorial ‘Ugly’, which has been premiered at every major film festival across the world is finally releasing on December 26.
‘Ugly’ was scheduled to release in 2013 but Anurag Kashyap’s reluctance against Censor Borad’s regulation of anti-smoking message caused the delay.  Now the film is being released on December 26 and it will try to stop the successful run of Aamir’s ‘PK’.
Here are few things that you should look out for in the movie:
Anurag Kashyap’s direction
Anurag has made films like ‘Dev D’ and ‘Gulaal’ in his career that keeps him separate from other filmmakers. After making his debut with ‘Black Friday’ he has made era defining films since then.

Ronit Roy’s performance
Ronit Roy without any doubt is one of the best TV actors. He is the one actor who has stuck to TV roles despite getting movie offers. Whenever he comes on big screen, he has succeeded in impressing with his performance. Once again, playing the lead in ‘Ugly’ has got Ronit Roy huge appreciation.

Surveen Chawla’s raunchy character
The video song ‘Nichod De’ from the film was released recently and the most intriguing thing in it was Surveen’s dance performance. She is playing an item girl and her character is definitely one of the reasons to watch the film.

Tejaswini Kolhapure’s presence
Sister of Bollywood actress Padmini Kolhapure and cousin of Lata Mangeshkar, Tejaswini has acted in few films and TV serials. But she got her major break with ‘Ugly’. The model-turned-actress has impressed with her role in the film.

Rahul Bhat’s debut
The TV actor is making his Bollywood debut with ‘Ugly’ and has been appreciated at different platforms for his acting in the film.

Anil Kapoor birthday special: Rare and unseen pics

Anil Kapoor birthday special: Rare and unseen pics

New Delhi: Anil Kapoor, the ever-green hero of Bollywood turns 58 tomorrow. And whohaa! There seems no way that the actor looks like someone of his age.
Often regarded as the man who raised the genre of ‘tapori’ in Indian cinema and made it a cult, Anil Kapoor is an actor who also made an equally lovable stardom for himself overseas as well. ‘Slum Dog Millionaire’, ‘24’ and ‘Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ are few of his noted international ventures.
The actor has got everything, one only dreams for - a successful career, loving family, international recognition and a great life; Anil Kapoor makes for a grand and influential personality in himself. Here follows a few rare pics of the actor, have a look!

It has always been a ritual for Anil Kapoor’s family to get reunited on his birthday and celebrate together. This year too, the family has planned a brief vacation in Dubai on Kapoor’s birthday but sans Harshvardhan.

Anil’s son Harshvardhan is more likely to be busy shooting in Rajasthan for Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra’s ‘Mirziya.’
"I'm really happy that I'll be spending time with my wife Sunita and my daughters Rhea and Sonam. We're flying to Dubai for my birthday and Christmas. But unfortunately, my son Harshvardhan can't join us. He is shooting for Rakeysh's (Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's) 'Mirziya' in the interiors of Rajasthan," confirmed Anil Kapoor.

Mehra is said to have been more than willing to let Harshvardhan go for the annual ritual. But the young aspiring actor chose to forego the family vacation. Anil isn't complaining.
"That's okay. There will be many other occasions for us to be together. Right now Harsh needs to concentrate on his career," said the actor, who has spent over three decades in the Hindi film industry.
anil kapoor young
Actor-producer Anil Kapoor, whose career in the filmdom spans over three decades recently said that criticism motivates him to work harder and that's why sometimes he waits for people to make fun of him or criticise him.
The 58-year-old shared his thoughts while speaking at a panel discussion organised for the Hollywood film ‘The Gentleman's Wager’.

"I told my friends that I wanted to be an actor and I was criticised and was made fun of. But whenever anybody makes fun of me or criticises me, it motivates me more, inspires me more and makes me work harder," Anil added further.
The National Award winner started his career in 1979 with a small role in the film ‘Hamare Tumhare’ and later gave successful films like ‘Mashaal’, ‘Tezaab’, ‘Beta’ and ‘Pukar’.

DUS KA DUM

It was her second visit to Lucknow and actress Amrita Rao was quite excited about it. "Dus dino mein this is my second visit to Lucknow," says the actress, who has literally been roaming around the state for the past one week. "Pehle Banaras, fir Allahabad, then Lucknow and now again back to Lucknow.

Lucknow is far more beautiful than I had imagined. It is very contemporary look wise - a perfect blend of tradition and modernity."

TV VS FILMS

While Amrita is doing quite well in films, her sister, Preetika Rao made her acting debut on TV with the serial Beinteha, which wrapped up sometime back.

"I am very proud of Preetika. I think she did very well for herself," says the elder sister, adding, "It has been a lovely year for her. She has seen my life so I didn't have to give her any tips. She chose to be a part of television rather than the film industry, which was a good decision as the medium gives you instant and more popularity than films. TV pe kaam karne see aap kisi ke dil mein gharr kar lete ho. But for a film actor, aisi popularity humein bahut time and bahut saare characters play karne ke baad milti hai."

So did she see her serial? "Well, I didn't watch Beinteha daily but yes, I used to see the episodes online later," says Amrita.

Amrita, who has always had that sweet girl-next-door image now wishes to go for a makeover. "I would love to do a negative role, like an Shah Rukh Khan in Darr. And I think, with the kind of face and the pre-conceived image or perception I have, that will go fantastically well. But I only want to do such a role if it is brilliant. I would not say yes to a negative role just because I want to change my image."

Miss India Neha Hinge to make Tolly debut

Following the footsteps of the likes of Rakul Preet Singh, Vanya Mishra, Simran Kaur Mundi, etc., yet another former Miss India, Neha Hinge has set foot in T-Town. The Miss India International (2010) has been signed up to play the leading lady in the forthcoming Telugu film directed by Rajamouli's father Vijayendra Prasad.

The filmmakers zeroed in on Neha after considering several actors. Neha has completed shooting for the first schedule of the film tipped to be a sci-fi thriller loaded with action episodes.
Apparently, the Mumbai-based actress was hand picked by the director. Neha says, "It all happened so quickly. Last month I got a call from the director's office asking me to come for the script narration. Apparently, Vijayendra Prasad had seen a video of mine and felt I suited the role. I landed in Hyderabad and went to the office at 8 am to meet the director. An hour later I was offered the role in this female-centric film."

Talking about her role, Neha says, "It's a very spunky character. I play an NRI who is a trained sharp shooter and a fighter. The film has lots of stylised action episodes. I couldn't have asked for a better launch pad."

Neha made her Bollywood entry with Luv U Soniyo opposite Tanuj Virwani last year. She's also making her Tamil debut with the film Sagaptham, which is currently under production.

Gujarat conversions spark anger, Cong says RSS-VHP flexing their muscles

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) came under fire Sunday  from the Congress and other opposition parties after more than 200 tribal Christians were converted to Hinduism in Gujarat.
"This is totally unfortunate whatever is happening. In the world, India had a different image of having people practising various religious beliefs, speaking different languages -- based on which the country was built... These actions will only create bad impression about the country," Alvi told ANI.
"Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and others are trying to destroy the country. If these people have been converted by coercion or inducement then it is a clear violation of law. But then what kind of image of India will be in the world," he added.
CPI leader D Raja also hit out at the VHP's move saying, "India is not a Hindu Rashtra, but a democratic republic.”
A Gujarat-based priest said he could not "accept that anyone who has been a Christian will convert to other religion by personal choice"."VHP is forcing people and luring them to convert their religion," Father Dominic was quoted as saying by Zee News.
Saturday's mass ceremony took place in a tribal village 350 kilometres south of Ahmedabad."As part of the ongoing 'ghar-wapsi' programme, VHP re-converted 225 people from Christian community and took them back into Hindu religion," said Valsad district VHP chief Natu Patel.
VHP organised a 'Maha Yagnya' (ritual of the sacred fire) for "purification" of the tribals before taking them back in Hindu-fold and also gave each of them a copy of Bhagwad Gita.
One of the converts told AFP they were promised ration cards and other financial incentives if they switched religions.
The VHP ceremony came just hours after BJP president Amit Shah dared opposition parties to move a bill against "forcible conversions"

The incident came against the backdrop of a raging debate over such programmes being organised by Sangh Parivar groups in various parts of the country.

A controversy had erupted early this month when a right wing group had organised a 'ghar-wapsi' drive wherein it reportedly converted about 100 Muslims in Agra in Uttar Pradesh.

The incident had created a ruckus in the Rajya Sabha, with the Opposition demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A similar incident was also reported from BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh where a party MP had claimed 39 tribal Christians were re-converted to Hinduism in Maoist-hit Bastar district in October this year.
If people are converting voluntarily, there should be no problem, but if force is being used, State Govt should take action: Venkaiah Naidu

Preeti Jhangiani: I love Jaipur for its simplicity

Preeti Jhangiani: I love Jaipur for its simplicity
Preeti Jhangiani
Actress Preeti Jhangiani was recently in Jaipur to walk the ramp, and told us she was visiting the city after a long time."I have been coming to Jaipur for many years now, and I have seen the city developing drastically. But it still has a unique charm. When you enter, the feel of the place is so beautiful. Though it has turned into a very high-fashion city , I still love it for its simplicity," she said.

Recalling a trip she took with her family many years ago, she added,"Another thing that I love about Jaipur is that it's a shopper's paradise. I'm a big shopaholic. Once I came to the city with my mom and sister - and we were putting up in a heritage property , very magnificent - I remember that we only used to go out for shopping. We bought a lot of things, including jewellery and artifacts."

Preeti, who started her Bollywood journey with the multi-starrer film Mohabbatein, got married to actor Parvin Dabas a few years ago and got busy with her home production company . Looking for a good film with a strong script, Preeti does not want to do just any film to keep herself busy ."I'm already busy with my company and corporate shows. All I want is a good film with a reputed production house. I won't mind doing a hero-centric film, but then it has to be a substantial role. Mere liye kuch karne ko toh hona chahiye na," she said.

Apart from her work, Preeti's three-and-a-half-yearold son Jaivesh keeps her busy ."He is very young and needs all my attention. He is absolutely a mumma's boy and keeps me very busy . At times it becomes very hard to leave him for a show ,but my mom and Parveen take very good care of him."
