Bhopal: 450 nikahs solemnised on second day of Ijtima
As many as 450 nikahs were performed on Sunday during the Ijtima
Nikah (mass marriage) programme at the 67th Alami Tablighi Ijtima, which
is witnessing a record-breaking participation at Eintkhedi on the
outskirts of Bhopal.
The second day began with a discourse by Maulana Saad, followed by
religious speech by Maulana Jamshed and Maulana Shaukat. The Islamic
scholars in their discourse focused on promoting education and literacy
among Muslims.
Markets in old Bhopal wore a deserted look from Saturday, the first day of Ijtima. Most of the shops remained closed in the walled city, which is expected to witness a huge rush after the conclusion of Ijtima on Monday.
Three-day meet ends on December 8
Ijtima will conclude on Monday (December 8) with a mass dua in the morning. Religious discourse will be delivered after fajir namaz (morning prayer). Later, Maulana Saad will deliver a discourse at 8.30am.
Traffic management
Ijtima committee spokesperson Atteq-ul-Islam said after the conclusion of dua, two-wheelers would be allowed to go. After a brief interval, three-wheelers and four-wheelers would leave to avoid traffic jam. Moreover, a whole battery of volunteers would manage and assist in traffic management. An estimated eight lakh people are expected to attend the Ijtima on the concluding day.
Muslim
devotees got on trucks to reach Eintkhedi to attend one of the biggest
Muslim congregations in India, in Bhopal on Saturday.
An estimated five lakh people came to attend the Ijtima on the
first day on Saturday. The huge gathering forced the organisers to erect
more tents to accommodate people.
Confirming the number of nikahs performed on the second day, Ijtima
committee spokesperson Atteq-ul-Islam said about a dozen qazis were
appointed to complete the documentation required to solemnise the
weddings.
The objective behind organising mass marriages is to promote
simple marriages with minimum expenses so that the poor do not feel
inferior when it comes to marriages, he said.
Maulana Saad solemnised the nikahs following a mass dua for the newly
married grooms. Brides do not come to the venue and their formalities
are completed beforehand.
