Nagesh Kukunoor's 'Dhanak' Selected for Berlin Film Festival

Nagesh Kukunoor's next directorial venture Dhanak (Rainbow) has been selected for the 65th Berlin International Film Festival which is set to begin on February 5.

The film will compete in the Generation KPlus category, a segment judged by an 11-member jury of kids aged between 11 and 14 years.

The filmmaker, who is known for his films like Iqbal, Dor and Hyderabad Blues, is ecstatic.

"I had promised myself that I would never attend the Berlinale till one of my films make it to the festival. I cannot believe this has actually happened," Kukunoor said in a statement.

Like his National-award winning film Iqbal, Dhanak also portrays a central character with a disability, but in a dramatically diverse setting.

The film is about an eight-year-old blind boy whose 11-year-old sister promises him that he will get his vision back before he turns 10. The film follows the duo on a life-changing journey through the sand dunes of Rajasthan.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has reportedly done a cameo and when asked about the same, Kukunoor said, "SRK's stardom is vital to the story and marks a conclusive end to the children's journey. Beyond that, I can't say much."

  • Rajpal Yadav gets his Hollywood call.
Actor Rajpal Yadav's recent release Bhopal - A Prayer for Rain is doing well in the box-office. Yadav now says that the film has opened doors of Hollywood for him.
The film also features Hollywood names like Martin Sheen, Mischa Barton and Indian-American Actor Kal Penn.
"I will continue doing projects in Bollywood. I do not mind straddling multiple industries but I will do all good films that come my way. The success of 'Bhopal - A Prayer For Rain' has opened doors for Hollywood films for me," said the actor.
The movie, directed by Ravi Kumar, is based on the Bhopal gas tragedy that happened in 1984 when a toxic gas leak from a pesticide plant Union Carbide killed and gravely affected thousands of people.
Rajpal has reportedly been approached for several Hollywood films but due to the Non Disclosure Agreements he is restricted from talking about them currently. "There are Non Disclosure Agreements (NDA) that prevent me from talking about them at the moment, but you will hear from the producers and the studios very soon," he said.
The movie also stars Tannishtha Chatterjee .
